In September 2025, the International Actuarial Association (IAA) released a new International Actuarial Note (IAN) on professional judgment in actuarial practice (IAN 300), an educational resource for actuaries and professionals with an actuarial background.

The actuarial profession’s expansion across diverse practice areas and transition from a rules-based to a principles-based approach has made professional judgment increasingly critical.

IAN 300 distinguishes professional judgment from expert judgment, emphasizing that it combines technical expertise with ethical principles, professional standards and regulatory frameworks, public accountability, and contextual awareness.

The IAN illustrates how actuaries may apply professional judgment in activities such as selecting data, addressing data limitations, choosing methodologies, setting assumptions, interpreting results, and communicating outcomes.

This webinar, hosted by the IAA’s Professionalism Committee, will introduce the key concepts in IAN 300, and discuss how the Note can support actuaries in applying sound professional judgment in their day-to-day practice.

2025년 9월, 국제계리사회(IAA)는 계리사 및 계리 분야 배경을 가진 전문가들을 위한 교육 자원으로서 계리 실무에서의 전문가적 판단에 관한 새로운 국제계리실무지침(IAN 300)을 발표했습니다.

계리 직종이 다양한 실무 영역으로 확장되고 규정 중심에서 원칙 중심 접근 방식으로 전환됨에 따라 전문가적 판단은 점점 더 중요해지고 있습니다.

IAN 300은 전문가적 판단을 숙련된 견해(Expert judgment)와 구분하며, 이것이 기술적 전문 지식과 윤리적 원칙, 전문가 기준 및 규제 프레임워크, 공적 책임, 그리고 상황적 인식을 결합한 것임을 강조합니다.

이 IAN은 계리사가 데이터 선택, 데이터 한계 대응, 방법론 선택, 가정 설정, 결과 해석 및 결과 소통과 같은 활동에서 전문가적 판단을 어떻게 적용할 수 있는지 설명합니다.

IAA 전문성 위원회가 주최하는 이번 웨비나에서는 IAN 300의 핵심 개념을 소개하고, 이 지침이 계리사들이 일상적인 실무에서 건전한 전문가적 판단을 적용하는 데 어떻게 도움이 될 수 있는지 논의할 것입니다.
